I would imagine they are easy just like most Amaryllid seeds....never found any tough ones yet.....where did you get these Griffinia by the way. I know that there is a guy in FLA that sells them, although he rarely answers e-mails, but any other sources would be appreciated. I also know that I am not a fan of disclosing sites on the internet, but if you are willing to share via a personal e-mail I would appreciate it. I think Griffinia are awesome plants, but only have one small unknown species.....am looking to add many others in the next year :o) Dan

Dan, I'll send you an e-mail tomorrow. I guess my two must have cross-pollinated, as I've read that they're self-incompatible. I got lucky there, the liboniana bloomed off and on through mid-summer and fall with no seed set, and then in Sept the espiritensis threw a single bloom spike that coincided with the liboniana. And voilà , seed!

I can not imagine why these are not more popular, but I suppose the average grower of Amaryllids wants monster blooms with tetraploidy and all that sort of stuff :o) Dan

Just an update to say that I've got germination now on the seed from G. espiritensis, about 6 weeks after the seed capsule split open. Right in line with what I read on the topic. And the parent bulb is blooming again in the upstairs bathroom. Wish I had some more pollen to brush on it. The seed from G. liboniana matured last week and has likewise been planted out on the surface of the soil.

That is great news....I'm getting seed of a relative of this called Griffiniopsis blumenavia......I am planning on just using my Griffinia mix which is potting soil and perlite 1:1....any other advice?? Please do post a pic of your Griffinia bloom :o) Dan

Sorry to be so late in answering. I was hoping to have a picture for you but by the time we replenished our battery supply (my son's new RoboReptile turned out to be a real battery black hole) the blooms were about spent. I just planted my seeds in the same pot the bulbs were growing in, potting soil mix containing vermiculite. There's pumice in it as well, although I don't know if that was primarily a top dressing or is mixed all the way through. Your mix sounds fine to me, although I'm not sure I'm in any position to be giving advice.
