Hello, I just brought home a nice Amaryllis (Red Knight?) from my local grocery store that was 1/2 off because the bloom was gone. This amaryllis has beautiful, large foliage. A old woman walked by me and told me that it is a strong, healthy one. So I purchased and brought it home. I cut off the stalk that had the bloom. It wasn't dried up but healthy still. I read they should be removed to allow the bulb to "rest". Question - can I just leave it in it's original pot and if so, when will it bloom again? Can I also replant it in another larger pot and if so, when can I do this? Thanks, TammyPie

Tammy I note you are in zone 9. Most of us in zone 9 can grow amaryllis in our garden. My bloomed out amaryllis I plant in the garden. The normal bloom time is in May, but it will not bloom this year in the garden, but will next year. Al

Hi Al, I wanted amaryllis to bloom during the Holidays next year and keep it indoors. Can't I just put it in the fridge in mid-August for 3 months? Thanks, Tammy

Although Amaryllis need a cool period before blooming it is only relatively 'cool'. (In fact, in my climate it would hardly be deemed cool at all). It is not fridge temperature. They are natives of climates with mild winters, not like daffodils or tulips. If you Google 'getting Amaryllis to rebloom' you will find lots of info. Here's one good account of how to do it.
