gritty mix vs. semi-hydro experiment

I've conducted a little rooting / growing / blooming experiment with a Hoya and a Dischidia. Check out the results in Google Docs: http://goo.gl/SslF1A.

I did try my best to keep the other variables fixed - both pots of the same species were kept at the same distance and height from the light and otherwise close to each other. They were watered / fertilized at the same time etc. You do what you can, and I think I did, although of course it would not qualify as a scientific experiment - it's not blind (I obviously knew which pot was which), it may work differently with other species, there needs to be way more pots, and blah-blah-blah. I get it. It's better than reading horoscopes though and arguably better than anecdotes.

For a better experiment try a 10/10 or better yet a 100/100.

What you experienced is a not a reliable results.

When we root Hoyas, Dischidia's, Epiphylliums, and similar cuttings, I've always use a 3:1 soil-less mix, using Aged Pine bark, and Fafard #52 commercial growers mix, with 1 cupful of Osmocote 9 month feed, CRF.

Another item is to mix a rooting compound made from the following manufacture. They are a Dutch co.

The Dutch are very efficient when it comes to plant propagation.
