gritty mix component- question for Al and others

There is actually only 1 or 2 feed stores left in NYC and it seems difficult to find the mix materials, especially this time of the year. One of the stores is located in the bronx and sells "pigeon grit" which was described as "pebbly" and either pink/red or grey/white. Has anyone ever bought this at Bronx Animal Feeds to use for the gritty mix. Before i take a trip all the way there, i wanted to confirm that it would likely be the same thing i need. 50lb bag for about 18 bucks, does that sound right?

Also, on napa auto's website, they have oil dry that appears to be the same type of material as the turface (montmorillinite clay?). has anyone used that versus the DE version?

I am trying to line up the ingredients prior to ordering my plants.

Thanks for you assistance.
