Container Gardening

help my scallions

My green onions that i grew from scraps 3 weeks ago, 1 week in water and 2 weeks in soil, thrived and now seem to be dying, the soil helped them triple in size but i am new to this game and they were my prize as i am growing many things now but none did as well as the green onions. What can i do? HELP!!!!! Thanks

2 weeks in soil & triple in size? Diameter ? Top growth ?

In this mild winter zone I have forgotten some and they continued to grow, bloom, and then foliage began dying. Dug one up and it was 'woody_ish'. Not satifactory for eating.

They were just white rooted bottoms when put in water and showed signs of healthy roots quickly, then i put in soil and green onion stems grew about 9 inches tall and began to wilt, with roots deflating(best way to describe). Ive lost 4 of 9 and fearing the rest will soon follow, ive since moved to window for better light. No changes yet but may be on trend of unhealthy span.
