Scott's Soil Conditioner is widely available at this time of year and is widely available. It is Turface MVP. I had also tracked down a supplier just outside of Brooklyn a very short time ago for a member named Elaine or Eileen, perhaps she will read this & offer her additional help.

It's a little large for use in soils, but Espoma's "Soil Perfector" would be a suitable substitute.

I was at Sams and picked up a bag of "oildri". I did the test you told me to do Al (soaked in water 24 hrs and squeezed it to see if mushed or not, It stayed just like original). Al is the one who told me about that. I havn't seen any turface either but thats what I'm using in my Rose pots for now.

Hi Wyndell and AL - So "oildri" works as well as turface or, Scott's soil conditioneer? Please give me more details. I saw oildri at Sam's club but turface is no where to be found locally in Denver. I am planning to grow some peppers on 5 gallon buckets again, and I am hoping to add turface like substance to my homemade potting mix. thanks.

Sanj, I couldn't find any turface either so my information came from Al. Here is what he told me in another post.

"Wyndell. I would look around, too. Oil-dri can be a very good addition to soils & is a good substitute for Turface, if it's fired at high enough temperatures. Soak it over night in water & then squeeze it hard. If it breaks up or turns to mud, it's not suitable."

I found Turface under a different name. It is sold at Lowes but not sure about Home depot yet...It is called...Aquatic Soil by Shultz..Same exact stuff, just a little more pricy...:-)
