I prefer to transplant out of a seed mix as early as possible, so I would go ahead now. I don't think you will have enough mix clinging to the roots to make any difference, so would not try and remove it and risk damaging delicate roots. Al

I'd go up to a 4-inch pot at least.
Citrus grow in spurts, and it's best if you re-pot between flushes of Spring growth.
So if leaves are clearly developing, wait until they've matured....then re-pot.

One advantage of using the gritty mix as you suggested, it will allow you to go to a larger pot without mix staying too wet even with a very small plant. If you have the room, I would jump right into the gallon size. Al
