| I'd reconsider if I were you. This is not a tree that adapts well to a cultivated garden environment and is even less likely to be happy as a containerized specimen for any length of time. It is extremely fussy about soil conditions, irrigation, resents urban pollution and is prone to a host of fungal problems that are decimating even the wild populations. If it is the look you like - glossy evergreen foliage, rich peeling bark and attractive, fragrant flower clusters - then you might want to consider its hardier cousin, Arbutus unedo or strawberry tree. The compact form of this readily available tree-like shrub is an excellent container subject. |
