Is this bark mulch okay for Al's 511?

I've been wanting to try Al's 511 container mix, but I've been having a hell of a time trying to find the bark component. I found one place that had bags of "aged bark mulch" which was the closest thing to pine bark fines for the mix I've found, but the bag was an opaque black with little other information. Is this stuff okay, or is it mostly aged sapwood and I'm SOL? The mini-sun is a quarter.

If its no good for Al's mix, does anyone know where to get some acceptable stuff in the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia?

No good, sorry to say.

It is ok. Just get the sapwood out.
It would've been better it it had little more pieces within 1/4" to 3/8". But that is not absolutely necessary. Maybe, to compensate for that you should add a little more perlite, for better drainage. So instead of mixing 5-1-1, mix it as 4- 1-1

I sure wouldn't use it.

If you want to see how much sapwood it contains, give it a rinse.
