Can vinca and a sedum cohabit in a small container? (newbie)

Hi,

Never have dared to mix container plants. But have seen some of the photos here of gorgeous, complex setups.

Probably a simple question, but not for a total newbie: can an annual like vinca and a perennial like sedum (a generic one in the basic but bit smaller form of a spectabile or "Autumn Joy") happily share a small fixed container (maybe 4-5 Gal), for the duration of the annual's growing season from Spring through Fall?

I keep thinking of The Odd Couple intro "Can two divorced men share an apartment without driving each other crazy ?"...
