dancinglemons. a more useful plan might be to keep the components in their separate containers and 'custom blending' a mix to suit the plant when that time comes.

Your mix would be about 60% peat, which is similar to many bagged mixes, but it would have less perlite than they do, so it would hold a lot of water. You could do it, but I think you'd be better off using half or less of the peat. With that much peat, you could get very compacted soil if you expose them to a lot of rain. What do you want to plant in the mix?

Thanks one and all. I would probably put the resulting mix into a container for either peppers or herbs (oregano, basil and others). I think I will take the good advice and use only half or less of the peat. THANKS!!!!!
