Should I top off my containers after settling?

Planted several herbs in 12 inch containers. filled to about an inch to the top with potting mix. After I watered them they settling a couple inches.

Now there is about 2- 3 inches from the top of the container to where the potting mix begins. Should I consider topping them off with more potting mix to bring them back up? Would that be alright for the herbs?

It's up to you. If there's extra mix lying around I usually do, but I never grew herbs.

Okay thanks I do have extra mix. Is it okay to cover a bit more of the plant stem and leaves with potting mix?

maybe try adding a bit at a time and not all at once, herbs are pretty tough for the most part.
