Your post does not really give enough information. How big was the pot you tryd to grow a Roma in last time? What did you use for potting mix? etc..
I have a Roma growing fine with many tomatoes ripening on it in an 18 gallon self watering container, using the 3:2:1 mix raybo suggests.
So in short yes they can be grown in pots, if the pots are large enough, and you use a good potting mix/blend and you supply adequate water.

The pot was about 14 inches in diameter with one tomato, and a few marigolds around it. I watered it a lot but I don't know about the soil. It was just ye olde potting soil that I got at the big box store. Today I bought a roma called "Juliet" so I'm about to try again.
