Drip, Sprinkler, or Bubbler? Wine Barrels

I am laying out a series of 11 half wine barrels and filing them with citrus and fig trees.

The barrels are raised off the ground with a couple of 2x4 sections. I am running 1/2in drip line underneath all the barrels and have another 1/2in line that come up from a t-connection through the bottom of each barrel and stops at the top of edge where it is capped off.

From here, the *original* plan was to connect a 1/4in tee and a circular drip line that went around the top of the container (well, a little buried for looks and evaporation prevention). I did this with the first container and was a little dismayed that the tubing wasn't performing evenly.

This got me thinking...maybe I should have something like a spray or bubbler that I can see so if there is a problem I will know right away. A buried drip line that gets clogged and stops working properly will take longer to discover.

Any suggestions/experience with this? All advice/comments/ridicule is welcome :)
