I recommend that you read the package instructions, or perhaps do an online search of the product. The instructions seem to be for in-ground application rather than containers. Any indication on the package itself?

As far as container vegetables go, I grow peppers almost exclusively....and Osmocote is my go-to slow release fertilizer.

Which type of Osmocote do you use? There are two varieties I know of the one with the green cap, which is for in-ground planting; I once called the manufacturer to see if the one with the green cap could be used for container gardening and they said no.

The one with the green cap has an NPK of 14-14-14.

Then there is the one with the pink cap which can be used for container gardening and it has an NPK of 19-6-12.

So do you use the one with the pink cap or the one with green cap? If you use the one with the pink cap, how well does it work?

Do you need to supplement with a fertilizer on the surface of the soil if using Osmocote mixed in with the soil once the plant starts to set blossoms and fruit?

I was thinking of using tomato tone for supplemental fertilizer; I'd be fertilizing every 2 weeks; if I use the normal dosage will it over fertilize my plants or will they be okay?

Go with the 19-6-12. It has the correct ratios of nutrients that are needed, and has worked well for me. I'm a firm believer in the 3-1-2 ratio of fertilizers, and have had great success with it.

Yes, I use the 19-6-12, mixed into the soil and top-dressed as well. I also fertilize with a liquid - which I could use by itself, but I like the Osmocote to bridge those gaps when I fail to fertilize in timely fashion.

I will supplement with tomato tone fertilizer once my peppers start to set their blossoms and fruit; I will fertilize with the tomato tone every 2 weeks. Is it okay to use the normal dosage for fertilizing with the tomato tone, or will it over fertilize the plants?
