Another bark thread!!!

I scored today on several 2 cu ft bags of fir bark. A local nursery carried "Greenall" micro bark. It looks perfect! The cost of buying orchid bark in 8 qt bags was killing my wallet. I also bought a 2 cu ft bag of cocoa shells. It looks like a good product for soiless potting mixes....

Cocoa husk mulch breaks down very fast in containers, so N immobilization is going to be a factor ..... along with the heat generated by the rapid composting and the water retention. If you found good bark, I'd stick with it & use the cocoa husks as mulch on the garden/beds.

Yep, Greenall Micro Bark is an excellent product, and virtually the same product that is packaged in E.B. Stone fine-grade "Orchid Bark." For 5-1-1, it should still be screened over a 1/2 inch sieve.
