Sourcing Materials

Hi Container Gardening Forum,

I've been reading here about the mixes and am very interested in making my own. Can someone offer advice on where to source materials? I want to make both the 511 and the 111 for my containers here in the Phoenix AZ area. Thank you!

RE: Sourcing Materials

Hi, I found that one good source for things can be found at hydroponic stores. Another source is at landscape supply outfits.

RE: Sourcing Materials

Thanks so much for your response, Chuck. Much appreciated. :) I was hoping someone from my area could tell me where to find the materials, but at any rate, I found some items and am hoping someone can tell me if this will do.

Orchid Bark from local nursery
Poultry Grit from local feed store
DE Oil Absorber from local auto parts store

Bark is "Premium fine grade fir bark"

There was nothing on the grit package to indicate the exact size. It only says it is "insoluble crushed granite" and "for all classes of poultry feed with coarse grains"

The DE is NAPA Floor-Dry which I read was a reasonable substitute for the turface.
