Manure mistake?

Hi Guys,

I'm a bit concerned that I may have made a mistake adding manure to my potatoes and cabbages ( I'm growing both in large containers). I have since heard that it is not safe to do so unless you do it the previous autumn. Will my potatoes and cabbage be safe to eat? I figure cooking them would kill anything harmful?

The manure was organic, in a bag from the garden center, probably cow. It didn't seem fresh, it was dark like compost, but a bit smelly.

If you got it from a garden center, I am 99% sure it was composted manure, which does not pose any risk of passing on e. Coli, like fresh manure. It's more likely to cause compacted soil in a container if it makes up more then about 10 percent of your mix than it is to pose a health risk.
