Bean subtraction problem

| If a bean plant can only produce 1-2 rounds of beans, and the bunnies chow down the first round before the beans and blossums got full size, are the nipped plants toast?
Does 2 - 1 = 1?
OR will the beans recover and re-try Round 1? I've covered the plants with screens should I do anything else to 'help my math'?? |

| All plants will continue to try to reproduce themselves (fruit) if the cultural conditions allow, which is why dead-heading is commonly employed to encourage plants to produce more blooms & fruits. I think that whether or not they will produce well will, in the end, be dependent on whether the high summer temps cause blooms/buds to abort and the effects of day-length, both/either of which can trump even the genetic will to reproduce in other than day-neutral plants. ... have to wait & see. >>cook up rabbit with your beans this year :) Sounds like tastey good math to me. Somebody set a few bunnies free and now there's an overabundance of them! I'll post the 'answer" in about a week. Stay tuned! |

| Ok it's been a week...just posting back. Yes the bean are blooming but not at the vigor of the first blush. Cooked rabbit is in order. We see 5-6 different ones all over the neighborhood. |

| Strike is a bush bean variety I have found to produce heavily for a longer period than others I have tried. |
