Container soil

I planted some summer squash, winter squash, watermelons, green beans, and tomatoes in some organic soil I bought at home depot. I don't know whether it was the soil or what but all of my plants got some type of disease. The winter squash got powdery mildew which transferred over to the summer squash and watermelon, my green beans didn't grow really and my tomatoes got blight. This will be my second time planting vegetables in containers. The containers I used are large 10 gallon black plastic containers. They have great drainage.

Could anyone suggest a better type of soil to use? I plan on heading to the county dumb where they offer free compost but I still need a good container soil.

Thanks in advance for all the feedback!
