Container soil

When you change out your container soils for fresher, can you reconstitute the old soil by putting it in a compost pile or another pile for a couple of years? (I am posting this question in the Annuals Gardening Forum also.)

You can add it to your garden or compost pile but it will not make it "new" again or suitable for reuse as container soil for most purposes. Al
