Silly but effective

I try to grow tomatoes every year on our patio, but we border an undeveloped field... and the bugs/critters/birds have a great time, I've never gotten a single tomato! This year I bought one of those collapsible mesh laundry baskets, inverted it and fastened it to the edge of the pot ( which curls under) on 4 sides with those spring-loaded paper fasteners. It's working, we're getting tomatoes! Yay! I did have to trim the plant back when it reached the top, could probably cut the top off and piggy back another mesh.

Very artistic picture :-) I enjoy to watch it. Color of the pot and color of the sunscreen umbrella match very well as well as the background.

It is not SILLY but creative, thanks for sharing.

If Im not mistaken, that mesh fabric can be purchased at fabric stores, and is fairly cheap.

I bought some tule today at Beverly's for .70 per yard! The lady has been very surprised how many gardeners are buying it!

We had a very hot summer, and I got a dozen tomatoes ( little Sun Golds) but the skin was remarkably tough! I read this could happen from too much heat. So, I don't know if it was the hot summer, or if the mesh held in too much heat? Anyway, we're still getting more tomatoes, but since temps have fallen since the bginning of August, the skins are becoming softer.
