Not sure if they have 4 cubic foot bags, but Lowes and Home Depot in Massachusetts does sell Perlite. I did the same thing and looked online but with shipping costs it was much, much less expensive to buy it locally. Good luck.

I've seen perlite in 3.5cu ft bags at Home Depot for approx $23 in Colma, CA. Orchard Supply had 3.5cu ft bags for approx $16 in South SF. You should be able to find something in SJ.
