Probably will not work. Can't tell you exactly why, maybe someone else can. There have been various discussions about that, and only pine, fir, or hemlock bark are recommended.

Fir is another good possibility. I believe some people also mill fir around here. I'll keep my eyes open.

The fibrous, stringy nature of redwood bark makes it unsuitable for container mixes. This leads to uneven or, rather, unpredictable moisture retention. There may be chemical differences in the bark of the redwood, as well.

As Josh mentions the stringy nature makes it impossible to screen to sizes needed besides the moisture retention problems. Here I have large quantities of fir bark I run through my chipper/shredder, then screen to the sizes needed, and store until needed. Al
