2-3' Brogdon avocado tree

I have recently been given a 2-3' Brogdon avocado tree, it has lost a couple of the lower leaves which have turned yellow and fallen off, I will attempt to attach current picture. I have put the tree in a bigger pot and used fertilizer once but the leaves are still turning yellow near the bottom, any ideas?
