Elevated garden box

I put in a ground level box garden in my back yard, but unfortunately, there are Melaleuca trees there. The roots from them overwhelmed the garden and stunted the growth of everything planted there. I believe that I need to construct an elevated box garden (approx 5' x 8') in order to keep the roots at bay. I would ask for the best practice in constructing one...maybe >3" off of my back yard surface. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!

I recently bought some that stand waist high from my neighbors who moved to Maui.
I can't help you with the construction, but be sure they are STRONG! All that soil and water is heavy! Ours are 40"x8'x1'deep. One of ours the bottom collapsed. We'll be repairing it this winter.
Check into the container forum, because the soil and care in containers is quite a bit different than in-ground gardening!
The neighbors used the wrong type of soil, so most things in these containers didn't do well at all compared to my in-ground beds. You also are advised to use less organic matter and more time release fertilizer (due to the good stuff leaching out).
I'll be replacing my soil for next year.
