Virtually all woody plants do well in containers if you're versed in their cultural preferences and work toward providing them, with reasonable success. Knowing the species would be helpful. You'll probably need to provide winter protection by bringing it into an unheated garage for the winter, or burying the pot in the garden to help moderate air temperatures when they drop lower than the roots can tolerate.

It likes full sun while actively growing, and a shady spot out of the wind would be nice for over-wintering.
