What kind of gutters for gutter gardening?

Hi!

I have an ambitious plan to set up several feet of a vegetable gutter garden along my side yard. I'm now concerned that vinyl gutters might degrade with nasty/toxic side effects though. I've also read that aluminum, steel or zinc gutter might have unhealthy anti-rust coatings. Any truth to these fears? I can not afford copper!

What kind of gutter should I use, or are all my gardening dreams down the . . . gutter?
