Soil for containers ...peace lily

I have been pointed in this direction for guidance.

I am having issues with my peace lily. About a month ago it ( a leaf) turned yellow. It had been sitting in that same spot for a few months. Lighting, temp and watering has not changed.
One leaf turned yellow and wilted away. I checked the soil and the roots were kinda coming up towards the top of the pot. I re potted it to 1 size bigger pot . It is a clay pot btw.

Within 2 weeks about 9 more leaves have turned yellow then wilted and now brown. Young leaves and old.
(Ill post a pic in a few minutes.)
I changed the soil, added some orchid mix to it but only the big chunks. I was recommended to do so by a "plant doctor" in a local nursery. (Did i go wrong there?). I have had this plant since mothers day. I really like it.
Its huge. Well was, now its starting to go down hill.

I wanted to put all the plants in the gritty mix, however financially I can not afford to do so.
And none of the ingredients are available around here. So im stuck with the store stuff.. Any advice on this plant? what do to? what not to do? Thanks.

Where in NIOVA are you? I am in Alexandria. I get the turface and gran-I-grit from John Deere and Southern States. I get the bark at a nursery on Route1.

Your soil may not be allowing enough air to get to the plant's roots.

I am in Reston.
The nusery out here has the bark but way too expensive for me. I'd like to have all my house plants in the gritty mix, by the time I saved up for all the ingredients my plants will be dead lol.

That's what I was thinking, from reading all the forums. Air flow.

If you only require a small amount of fir bark for a pot or two's worth of medium, you can find small bags of a product called Repti-Bark for reptile tanks at PetSmart or any pet store that deals in reptiles.

The small or medium sized bags contain decent, clean fir bark in a very appropriate size particle for the job... this is what I use when I can't afford a large order of fir bark.
