Liquid fertilizer injected into irrigation water, then applied, is fertigation.

The control release fertilizer (or CRF) are the pellets that are worked in at soil mix creation or periodically scratched into the soil mix surface. You water after mixing CRFs in.

I use 'fertigation' a lot, and use it to mean fertilize and irrigate in a single operation, whether by injection or from a watering can. I don't fertigate extremely dry plants, but I regularly and habitually fertigate all my plantings at a point in time when it's their regular watering time - and yes, I do water on something of a schedule, too. ;-)

So it sounds as if I could do it all at once, so long as my plants aren't too dry. So maybe I will try it during the cooler months. (All my plants are mad at me right now so I have to baby them. Just had a heat wave.)

Another piece of the puzzle falls into place. Originally, one of the reasons I used organic ferts is that I heard/read somewhere that you can't burn a plant with them. But I pre-watered them all the time anyway just to be safe. However, since the plants are in containers, I need to add in a synthetic at least some of the time. I hope if I use a weak solution and wait until it's cooler, this will work.
