Sansevieria Hahnii (?) & orange roots

If I recall correctly -- that's what this plant was called. I bought it about 18 months ago and I'm repotting it for the second time....dividing, actually. It broke it's first pot when it grew shoot #3 and looking at it today, it made me nervous with four shoots so I pulled it out of my gritty mix.

Since I water this plant maybe once every 3-4 weeks, haha, I wasn't surprised to see it was dry. But the roots were orange-red....and I don't think the pot is dying the roots. Is this normal or is this a deficiency of some sort?

I admit that I've been tougher on this plant than any other I have. Even with the once a month watering, I don't necessarily fertilize it each time. It never complains but then I saw the roots and was a little taken aback. I should pay it more attention....
