| I am growing baby corn in a container and about 12 tassels have appeared finally!!! (see photos below).
MY QUESTION: Is there anything I have to do to help them turn into corn OR produce more tassels? I read somewhere about hand pollinating but not sure if that applies, how to do it, or when! |

| But fresh-picked baby corn--not the baby corn out of a can swimming in a pan at the downtown salad bar--comes with a short window of opportunity; it must be had in mid-summer during just the one or two days after the silks of the corn cob emerge from the husk, called "silking". After that, baby corn is on its way to becoming an adult |

| no no these are special baby bred varieties...like on asian salads. See? http://www.reimerseeds.com/baby-corn.aspx |

| When you eat Baby corn you are really just eating the cob, the whole cob. If you wait very long after it silks out, you will have kernals which you don't want in baby corn unless you are saving the seeds (of non-hybrid types). So pollination doesn't come into the growing of baby corn to eat. |

| From Reimers Site "65 days. Zea mays. Plant produces good yields of tiny ears of baby corn. These tiny ears of corn are very tender and entirely edible. Excellent for stir fries and pickling. Best if harvested within 5 days of the appearance of silk. Perfect freezing variety. pk/50" Notice the 5 day window ? |
