The Dark Garden: Idle conversation

Some one mentioned that they wouldn't want to be my neibor. Well granted that when the "neibors" saw all those large trash bags filled with plastic bottles they were upset in March. In April the 5 gallon buckets were put out. May saw the first curious stares. By June they were asking questions. Ahhh, life. Now that it's October and the kiddies are stopping by looking at the Big Max pumpkins. I have to decide whether or not to cut those by Friday of this week or just let them go till frost kills them. There are five growing out of a single 5 gallon bucket. I figure they weigh about 20 - 30 pounds a piece. If I cut them I'll post pictures the end of the week. Now this was just idle conversation to help me gather my thoughts. The switch from outside to inside sometimes take's a little while. But thanks for listening to it anyway.

variety is the spice...
When I see someones yard where they obviously have a passion for what they are doing, it makes me smile, even if it falls out of my tastefull zone.
What is sad is to see a wasted yard, with nothing happening, knowing there are people who would love to have the space to use...

Howdy!
I have an idle question, if I may.

Why is it called The Dark Garden?

Back when I first saw the titles of your Threads, I wondered if it had to do with a moongarden, or night-bloomers. Then I thought, perhaps, that it was about shade gardening.

Whenever I read Dark Garden, I admit a part of me still thinks evil garden, full of toad-stools and mandrake and hemlock and sprites and various herbs to be employed in the dark arts. ;)

Ah where the mind goes.....

What was common knowledge before is strange knowledge now. We've gotten so use to things in bottles we've forgotten it all started with plants from the forrest. But no it stands for the Dark portion of gardening. See, 80% of all that goes on with a plant happens under ground in the dark. You get that right and the rest is easy. Hell with the Health care problems in America some of that "questionable" knowledge could come in handy.

If you really want something magical there a corrolation between that 80% evaporation and 80% underground activity. I noticed something this year that might give me a method of growing plants using only CC's instead of ounces! For most people science has become magic. Just ask anyone how to repair any of the most common items today.

georgeiii, I couldn't agree more with your last comment.

I hope to one day have a yard growing plants like yours. My dad is going to let me do some gardening at his house but for now I have to hear complaints from my landlord about how my plants in sub-irrigated planters are an "eye sore" for her. Guess some people only like the way broccoli looks in the store. Oh well, one of these days.

I know how you feel..been there done, that. Go over to Photobucket and look under ChristianWarlock. It might get you thru the urge to grow blues. You know you could always tell your land lord your growing a row for the needy need year?
