Growing magnolia in plastic pot

HI,

I have just bought a magnolia alba plant in a small plastic pot, plant is around 3 feet high. As our summers are very harsh and constantly temperature go beyond 100F in May and June, i am inclined to shift this magnolia into a large plastic pot such as this one attached image. The purpose is moisture retention and no need of frequent watering. I have lost some previous plants in clay pot just because i could not water them in hottest months regularly.

Just like my gardenia, i will keep it in full shade in hottest months and only bright indirect sunlight will be available. Will the roots be affected from heat in hot months?

PS: I am not worried about pot bound because magnolia are slow growing and have shallow roots.

Regards,
