What's available to you?

Pine/Fir bark in a particle range from dust to 1/2 inch is quite workable.

Use neither of those for a container.

I would agree with Josh. I would stay away from anything that will quickly decompose and possibly change the Ph of the soil too drastically. I would go with fir bark.

Growing in the ground is very different from growing in containers. I save organic methods for the garden, and keep with more inorganic, controllable methods for container growing.

If you make Al's gritty mix, just use the pine bark after it's first screening, (1/4"-3/8") but before you've removed the fines...(Thanks, AL..)

Since last few weeks I have been experiencing different mulch. I have used dry coco coir, small rocks and polysterin beads and finally I use now LECA/hydrograin.I have a couple of questions about mulch and its application.

How thick should I apply the mulch LECA?
Is it just covered the soil?
Could the mulch dry or wet or moisture the upper soil layer?

I am more concerned about the damping/wet of the upper soil layer.

Any help will be appreciated.
