Spinach, lettuce, and peas are quite hardy and can survive in frozen soil for short periods. However, long and deep freezes will harm the plants.

Ruth. depends on where you live. but it is nice and warm now.

I use weatherbug for my forecasts. I would not worry unless it is getting real cold. like down to 25 F or below.

I have put out lettuce in march. spinach is most successful if you plant it in late fall and leave it out all winter. however, in Mass it will mostly die. I have seen a big field of spinach live all winter in concord mass some years ago.

the best place to over winter a crop like spinach would be under snow all winter. the snow will protect the plants and keep them alive almost no matter how cold it gets.

I am out near Concord mass area. what general areas are other mass grower growing. the cap cod ocean area is very different from western mass mountain areas.
