sow bugs

I read about sow bugs...some actually say they do not do any damage. Recently I began noticing a black sand like mixture under my exterior door frame. Yesterday, I opened my door and the entire door frame was rotten! It was installed in 2001. There were hundreds of sow bugs (rollie pollies, tank bugs etc.) How do I rid myself of them? I raise cats, so it must be a pet friendly method. Thank you anyone. Kats

RE: sow bugs

Replace the door frame and make sure the new door frame is sealed or painted. They are there because there is food. Take away the food (rotting wood) and they will disappear.

Sprinkling Diatomaceous Earth will work to take care of the immediate problem, make sure your cats are not in the vicinity when you sprinkle it.
