I recently harvested 8 butternut squash. I washed and dried them and put them in a cool pantry. Checked on them the other day and clear sticky liquid was oozing from the stems. Does anyone know what this is?

Did they last long for you? (he asks 4 months later ;). If the ooze was from the tip of the stem it probably was ok. If it was from the base of the stem then perhaps a borer pest? Did they "cure" in the field? sounds like it ok. When I grew and harvested butternuts I washed them in <5% bleach solution before storing.
