Here's what the same melon looks like today:

And a close-up of the same one.

Found another baby hanging from the fence, and another just starting to grow! And finally, here's one about the size of a baseball.

Not too long now on that second one. Watch for yellowing between the web and of course the incredible fragrance that muskmelons put out. :)

I just hope my new dog doesn't turn out to be a fan of muskmelons...

Looks like it may be time to hold back water. Are the others on the same vine?

Some of them are on the same vine. I'm somewhat resigned to the first (big) one maybe being bland because of the timing. We had torrential rains last week and then with the other babies on the vine, I may need to water a bit if the vines start wilting in this heat. We'll see! :)

That dog is a melon junkie if ever I saw one. look out if you see him sniffing the melons to see how ripe they are.

Organic_nut, it turns out the dog really IS a melon junkie. Luckily, he seems content to wait for me to give him a slice. He went through a piece of watermelon like it was nothin'.

Well, it turns out I wasn't growing Minnesota Midgets after all. I have no idea what they are. Some melons are oblong and netted, some are smooth and round, and turn bright yellow when ripe.

Here's one I harvested yesterday:
