A little early for starting cucumbers or melons in zone 5. Either start in peat pots in early May or direct sow in early June.

Cucumbers and canteloupes are long, vining plants so unless you've got a lot of space and a lot of light indoors then it's probably best to toss these. The Aerogarden 3 is much too small for them and it's way too early to be thinking about starting these seeds for growing outside.

Agree that now is the time to be learning about the how-tos rather than actually doing it. Research how-to grow from seed, what crops are direct seeded and which are not, learn about the when of planting and seed starting in your zone, about how much space certain plants need, about the supplemental lights needed for growing seedlings indoors, etc.

These seedlings in your photo won't survive so call it a learning experiment and toss them.

If shade is all you have available outside then then look into gardening in containers that you can sit some place in the sun. Sun exposure is vital to growing things.

I agree that now is learning time. I would suggest you watch youtube vids from either MHPGARDENER or LARRY HALL. You will learn a lot and be ready when planting time gets here

plant cucumber seed direct in the garden after your frost date is past, Don't mess with transplants. There really is no benefit. just hassles, Allow plenty of space,

Almost all of your vining plants only suffer and end up getting stunted if you plant them indoors...read your seed packet or look them up..if the packet says you can direct sow outdoors, then you are better off doing that.
I know that as a new gardener you are anxious to get something green going! We all have made the same mistake..don't give up!
If you want to grow something in your aero garden...try broccoli seed and eat them as sprouts..they are delicious, and much more nutritious than full grown broccoli! You can grow just about any sprout in the aero garden and it will be fine, too.
