Another sweet potato question

OK, I have been pondering...and I am afraid this may be a dumb question, so try not to laugh too hard. (I was sick the last couple of weeks so that's my excuse if my brain is not functioning as it should!)

Here goes: to get the slips I need, I had planned to suspend my sweet potatoes with the blunt end down in the glass of water. But through a link in another post here in GW, I saw that someone had theirs with the pointy end down and it was rooting OK from that end. I cannot remember whether it really makes any difference. I know with most seeds it is not terribly crucial-- although I know beans prefer the "eye" down, the root "knows" to go down and the sprout up...

Sometimes it is hard to tell WHICH end of a tater is the stem end, too...the tubers come in such varied shapes. Thoughts?
