Plant in mounds or rows, as you prefer. If rows, plant every 4", thinning to 1 plant per foot. Mounds should be 1Â to 2Â apart with 6 seedlings on each mound thinned to 3 per mound. Another HIGHLY recommended method is to plant with a trellis. Cucumbers grow straighter and are easier to see when harvesting with this method. Use recommended row spacing and tie the main stem to the trellis with string or twist ties. (If growing in a container, you can place the container next to a tall trellis, or insert a 2Â-3Â trellis inside the container.)

Thanks for the advice. Isn't this variety too small for a trellis? I think the mound idea sounds good to me, as I will get more plants in the same area, will I not?

The Space Master 80 has branches that can grow to about 3-4' long. If space is tight go ahead and stake 'em up. The vines and female flowers seem to damage easily. So go gentle

I got regular Spacemaster, Ferry Morse brand... so they should be fine sprawling. I've got very limited space. Maybe about 25 square feet at the extreme most.

I'm so glad I saw this question, because I never get to brag. I plant spacemaster cukes in a planter on my front steps and let them trail down the wall. Picture attached! What you will see here is early growth really. They get bigger. I've planted as many as 8 in a 4'x1' container and they did great! (I also got compliments on my lovely "flowering vine" at my garage sale! LOL!)

Mine are in containers here in Miami my plants hit 7' organically raised. I use 12" pots and stakes and chicken wire for climbing and mesh support. I do urban vertical gardening.
