Saffron source in the US?

Which is the reliable source to buy saffron plant?

you can buy saffron crocus bulbs from a lot places, anywhere that has a good selection of bulb flowers. I think they are usuall grown as an ornamental since each flower only produces 3 little threads of saffron which means you would need dozens of them for any respectable harvest (there is a reason its the worlds most expensive spice).

Thanks Zachs. Yes, I am aware ---that it is one of the most expensive spice, yield is low etc. I just want to know if any experts know reliable source to buy them--insight into their personal experience with online buying this plant.

Just make sure when you buy that you are purchasing Saffron Crocus, ie Crocus sativus, and not Meadow Saffron, often miscalled Autumn Crocus, ie Colchicum autumnale. A very different plant and very poisonous. The two are often confused in articles and even catalogues due to their misleading common names.
