Artichoke deer resistant?

Posted by organic_dcox 9 (My Page) on

I am looking for edible perrenials to plant outside of my fenced in garden area, globe artichoke seems like a good option as they take up large amounts of space inside my fence and require semi permenant beds. Anyone have experience with deer and artichoke.

I haven't grown them for years, but I will say that the deer left mine alone. Chipmunks occasionally munched on them though, and they were slug magnets.

RE: Artichoke deer resistant?

I found that the plants are generally dormant when deer are at their most voracious (late summer), so deer were not a problem. However gophers will go bonkers for artichokes so they will require underground cages.
