| In a French movie, Le Havre , a vendor is selling leeks bigger than his forearm. They were probably the size of a very large man's forearm. The scene is down on the Mediterranean coast. I have never seen anything close at the supermarkets. Do we have any such huge varieties here in the US? |

| Probably. You'd have to read descriptions of ones offered by different sellers. American Flag is one that's pretty large, and I think Broad London is another large one. But I don't grow either, and don't know if they're as large as the one you saw. Sounds interesting, though! Let us know if you find out what it is. |

The larger leeks will come from the long season varieties that are planted in the spring and ready in late October or November. But as with everything there are tricks, and of course, soil, weather etc. variables. |

| They were maybe overwintered leeks. They are not better when really big though. |

| Since you mentioned Leek. I read that elephant white Garlic is not a garlic It is leek. But it tastes like mild garlic. The bulb is huge and can weigh more than a pound. It could be used for cooking but it also it could be cut on salad. I am going to plant some of this puppy to see how is it. Abe |
