need advice on heavy feeding plants (corn, melons, winter squash)

Basically I know they are very heavy feeders. I am wondering if it's possible to over do it with fertilizing them?

Since I realize they're heavy feeders, I was planning on using a combination of a slow release fertilizer as well as as compost in my soil mix for them.

Would this be too much for fertilizing them?

The melons I'm referring to are cantaloupes (small size, 1-3 lb. range); icebox watermelons (5-10 lb. range) and honeydew.

The winter squash would be primarily butternut and spaghetti squash.

The corn would be dwarf varieties that are early maturing (about 60-70 days).
