Pesty, colorful flying beetles

Hi all,

Any clue what kind of beetles these are? They have infested my garden, yard, and even gotten into the house. At first glance, I figured they were weevils of some kind - but not sure.

If you'd include your location or at least your garden zone it would help as many pests are strictly regional and most live in cycles that are tied to climate. Also any other info you can provide.

For example it is apparently one of the species called leaf-footed bugs but there are hundreds of them. The Family Coreidae has over 1800 members.

The group includes common boxelder bugs and squash bugs, but in most parts of the country it is far too early for them to have emerged.

They are not weevils. Weevils are tiny and are usually found in your flour or grain bags in a warm climate.

Might be boxelder bugs, which sometimes come indoors.

Yes, Boxelder bug or a close relative. Usually not a problem.

Ha! Boxelder bugs might not be a problem to most people, but this last fall we had MILLIONS of them trying to get inside ---- many did and we are still trying to get rid of them. It was just like a few years ago when we had huge numbers of Asian Lady Beetles. We live in farm country and have acres of trees. The Lady Beetles like the soy bean fields (lots of yummy aphids).

I guess the good thing is that we never have both bugs in the same year.
