That west coast rain is making news items here on the east coast. Article says neighborhoods in the LA foothills are being evacuated due to potential mud slides.

Every year do you lose plants from lack of water?

I'm glad you are getting rain at last. Just yesterday I emailed my daughter in the East Bay area about the rain they were finally getting. She doesn't garden but still had concerns about the drought. Even though she has some outside work at times for athletic events she is happy for the rain.

Here's hoping for more rain for you delivered in amounts that do not cause flooding or other problems.

Thanks all. Container lettuce, cilantro, parsley, 2 year old kales and swiss chards(must be deep rooted by now) is still putting out some for harvests. Also some Nuclear peppers that survived the bit of frost we had.( no shortage of dried chiles from last year though) Rosemary and thyme love this weather. I think it would survive on Mercury. Hopefully my onions and leeks won't be stunted.

Yeah. Mudslides and such happen all the time somewhere. What happens is we don't get rain for eight months of the year and then it just comes all at once. Flooding is common but not like it does in say the Mississippi or Missouri valleys. It's usually just flash flooding, urban flooding, or storm surge along the coast.

Lose plants? In a way. This year my tangerines are smaller than normal and I'll definitely be planting less--- Just tomatoes and peppers this summer I did pull my broccoli though because I usually rely on the winter rains for much of the water

What kills you is the water districts raise the rates so much that lawns get neglected and most gardeners will probably just not do veggies. I have a plan though -- less plants of just toms and peppers and mulch, mulch, mulch like I always do.

What also kills us the the brush. It just gets so dry for wildfires.

Yeah. Kinda windy I'm in good shape here too. I grow in barrels mostly for containers. Peppers(some) in 5 and 10 gal, but those got washed yesterday from collected rain water. I got out there with some soap and a rag and washed up all my smaller pots. Every drop helps!

I do have some smaller pots with started flower seeds, but they're under the eaves -- didn't want them to get pelted by the large drops of rain.

We're getting more hard winds than downpour.

We've had quite a bit of very welcome rain in Riverside. Parts of the backyard have formed lakes. It's wonderful- the city needed a good bath!

The wind is now ROARING. . I feel a little scared !

We are getting downpour after downpour now. I emptied the bird bath twice and it's full again !

La Canada here (north of Pasadena). I've set an empty container on Wednesday and measured 5 inches of rain. There were 2 downpours here when we got an inch of rain in an hour.

I'm not impressed down here in Santee. Where are these HEAVY rains?? It's come down moderately a few times, but not what I expected. Especially when you see the red show up on radar and it passes right over.

Any rain is good. I just don't think 3 inches is in the cards here. Usually pretty good here in the valley of the southern part of S.D. county.

I really don't care too much though. As long as the reservoirs are filling, that's all that matters.

Yay rain! SF East Bay here. I put off planting my beds until a couple weeks ago since rain was so scarce. Transplanted some potted trees just before this storm and they appear mighty happy to be in the ground! Looking for Miracle March!

I'm glad the wind has died down. We had two heavy cloud bursts last night and a few showers today.
The birdbath has filled three times from empty.
I'll wait for sunshine before I start sweeping up gazillions of leaves.
This storm has been a gift though. We need every drop !

Problem up here is we're going on 3 years of drought and the soil soaks up the H2O before it turns into runoff into the lakes!
I think our Lake Sonoma is at about 60%. We're in better shape than surrounding counties!
My well is holding OK. We have it monitored every 3 months due to a new casino going in less than 2 miles away =( So far it hasn't dropped! Nancy

It was raining SUPER hard during lunch yesterday at school. And there was so much wind too! Everyone was running around like crazed animals trying to seek cover since we don't have an indoor cafeteria. It hasn't rained as much today where I live. Southwest Riverside County.

Yeah! It finally came down in buckets a couple times today. that might've pushed us up to the 3" mark.

Too bad it's all over for the most part.

I have teeny tomatoes ready to plant out. The Red Robin seeds came up and are looking thick and lush.

Some of the rain actually made it to drought stricken NM too. Unfortunately, my rain gauge is cracked but the beds still look wet. Fortunately it was a slow enough rain for the soil to absorb it instead of fast and furious like normal.

Do you guys in So CA have water catchment systems?
I'm thinking of making some out of free or cheap materials.

The rains have been very beneficial up here in N. California. Snow Peas are very happy today!
