Not sure what is going on withy summer squash...brand new to gardening and was so excited. I put some compost tea on garden yesterday, but it was smelly so now I fear I did more harm them good. The squash looked like this before the tea. Any tips?

You don't say where you live or even your garden zone so I can only assume that it is somewhere in the southern hemisphere since you already have squash planted outside. Squash is a summer crop, not a spring one.

You are seeing some sun scorching (the large white spots) and some aborted fruit sue to lack of pollination (the 2 small ones at the bottom of the plant). I don't see anything else in your photo.

Sorry I live in Zone 9. Is there anything to for lack of pollination? Should I shade cover for the sun spot?

You can hand fertilize squash by finding a male flower, and taking it to each female flower and swirling the stamen in there. My morning routine last summer was to go out to the garden before leaving for work and seeing if there were any flowers to pollinate :)

Too early for squash even in zone 9 from what I have read from the other gardeners there. But maybe it will survive if the weather cooperates.

You will have to hand pollinate. There is a FAQ here with all the info on how to do it. Just click on the blue FAQ button right below the Forum Instructions at the top of the page.

As for shading, normally the plant leaves provide enough. In this case since there are so few leaves you may have to. But it is only going to make growing it this early more difficult. As the plant develops the later fruit should be protected enough.

Thanks for the help, I'll try the hand pollinating...I only tried one of these plants since it is still cooler here, good thing I guess.
