Daffodils and vegetables together?

Posted by hum_along Western WA (My Page) on

Hello all. I read that daffodil bulbs are poisonous if ingested, but can they adversely affect vegetables growing nearby? In the fall I "temporarily" put the daffodils bulbs in my raised veggie bed and promptly forgot about them until they sprouted. Not sure if it is okay to plant edibles now. Thank you for any info.

Daffodils will not poison the edibles in your garden. Just don't dig up the bulbs by accident and put them in a stew.

Yeah it isn't a problem unless you eat them.

I have grown them mixed together for 30 years and my family are still alive :).

It might even keep voles away.

It doesn't work that way. Toxins don't migrate out of one plant and be absorbed by another. The only type of issue with absorbed toxins, to my knowledge, is with things like heavy metals and organic chemicals from industrial and agricultural contamination.

Thank you for all the responses. It seems there is a study out on a daily basis that says one thing or another is toxic to us, so just wanted to check. Here's to everyone having a fantastic growing season!
